TR5

Built between 1967 and 1968, the TR5 resembles its predecessor, the TR4, with Giovanni Michelotti's design. As the biggest differences are hidden under the body, the main distinguishing features remain subtle side trims in a wider version, S-shaped curved exhaust twin pipes and a slightly smaller radiator grille.

Or the engine: According to the brochure, the TR5 was the first British sports model with petrol injection (a Lucas mechanical intake manifold injection) in the 2.5 litre in-line six cylinder. This was complemented by a 4-speed gearbox with optional Laycock-de-Normanville overdrive.

A full 143 hp drive the TR5 "Straight Six" to a top speed of 201 km/h and let it accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. The powerful engine distinguishes it as a true sports car and enables a unique driving experience that only a true classic can offer.

In addition to its sporty and elegant appearance, the TR5 is lavishly equipped for its time with crank windows, sun visors, locks on both doors and glove compartment as well as a fan heater, conveying British sports car flair.

TR250

The TR250 is the carburettor version of the TR5 and was only intended for the American market. The US market was the most important sales market for the Triumph TR series. With the mechanical injection system, the TR5 could not meet the emission limits for the USA. So a model with the new name TR250 was produced, which was equipped with two Zenith Stromberg carburettors. With 77kW, the vehicle had somewhat less power and needed about 10.6 seconds to get to just under 100 km/h. Nevertheless, the model was very successful.

TR6

In 1968, the world was ready for the appearance of the TR6: the body of the TR5 was modernised and smoothed out by the German coachbuilder Karmann. The new TR6 went for a more modern style, but technically shone with the powerful 2.5 litre engine of the TR5. However, only about 15% of all TR6s produced were equipped with this engine, as the exported models (mainly destined for the US) were fitted with the Stromberg twin carburettors.

This circumstance does not make the TR6 any less sporty, but more robust and even more reliable. So, the classic car definitely can be described as suitable for everyday use. For lovers of the British roadster classic, the TR6 brings a smile to the face for as little as €12,000, especially on winding country roads.

The sales statistics also prove this. The TR6 became the best-selling model of the TR series to date. It was replaced by the TR7 in September 1975, but that's another story.
