The Jaguar 420 and Daimler Sovereign

The Jaguar 420, or Daimler Sovereign, was introduced at the London Motor Show in October 1966 as a mid-range model between the S-Type and the Mark 10. The bodywork corresponded to that of the S-Type, but had an extended front end, which allowed the installation of the new 4.2 ltr. XK engine. Visually, the front was similar to the Mark 10 of the era. In contrast to the E-Type, the "four-twenty" had only a twin carburettor system, which allowed 183 kW, just under 250 bhp. The car reached a top speed of around 125 mph. As usual, a Daimler variant with improved luxury features was available.

The Jaguar 420 was replaced by the XJ6 as early as 1968. The Daimler Sovereign was available until summer 1969. About 10,000 "four-twenty" and 5,700 Daimler Sovereign were produced. Only about a quarter of the production was left-hand drive and exported.
