Rubber mats not only have acosmetic effect, but are a real safety feature: The non-porous surface resists liquids getting into carpet and insulation materials and enables liquids to evapourate again relatively quickly. This reduces the amount of liquid circulating in the winter, making the vehicle less likely to steam up. Less flying blind, and better vision contribute significantly to road safety.
