One cold start corresponds to 200 km of driving, nothing damages a car engine more than a cold start. If an engine were always kept at the right temperature, it would last almost indefinitely.

A preheated engine at operating temperature starts quickly, warm oil is light-bodied, cold oil is as viscous as honey. The battery, starter motor and ignition lock are spared.

Fuel consumption is increased by 300 % to 400 % during the cold start phase.

Aggressive exhaust gases are produced due to incomplete combustion. These are harmful to the engine, the exhaust and the environment.
